Puducherry launches ₹36.49 crore of fisheries infrastructure projects
The package combines a fish landing centre, harbour upgrades and a seaweed-farming capacity centre under a cooperative-led blue-economy programme.
The Department of Fisheries has launched three projects in Puducherry with a combined value of ₹36.49 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
The package comprises an ₹18.94 crore fish landing centre at Nallavadu, a ₹15.63 crore upgrade of Puducherry Fishing Harbour and a ₹1.92 crore innovation and capacity centre for seaweed farming at Karaikal.
Why it matters
Landing, handling and harbour infrastructure can affect product quality, safety and access to markets. The seaweed component also links producer capability with an emerging coastal value chain.

The portfolio is stronger as an integrated value-chain intervention than as three isolated assets. Utilisation, maintenance, producer participation, buyer access and ecological safeguards will determine whether the investment improves livelihoods sustainably.
