Government sets phased deadlines to strengthen farm-extension centres
Infrastructure upgrades at 300 priority Krishi Vigyan Kendras are targeted for March 2027, followed by skill and incubation centres across the network.
The Agriculture Ministry says infrastructure and logistics at 300 priority Krishi Vigyan Kendras are to be upgraded by March 2027. Incubation-cum-skill centres are planned across all KVKs by December 2028.
For 2026-27, the ministry reports that cluster demonstrations for pulses and oilseeds cover 24 states and 353 KVKs. It records 9,750 hectares completed against a target of 12,349 hectares.
Why it matters
KVKs connect agricultural research with farmer training, field demonstrations, technical advice and local enterprise support. Their reach and operating quality influence how quickly useful practices move beyond research institutions.

A useful scorecard would show completed upgrades, staffing and equipment availability, state-fund release, farmer participation, practice adoption and changes in yield or income at each centre.
