Jharkhand signs Rs 1,684 crore Amended BharatNet implementation agreement
The state-led programme covers 4,395 gram panchayats and on-demand connectivity for 26,777 villages, with household connections still projected.
Digital Bharat Nidhi, the Department of Telecommunications, Jharkhand government entities and BSNL have signed an agreement to implement the Amended BharatNet Programme through a state-led model.
The programme covers 4,395 gram panchayats, including upgrades at 4,387 locations and eight new connections, plus on-demand connectivity for 26,777 villages. Central financial support is Rs 1,684 crore, and the release projects more than four lakh subsidised rural home-fibre connections.

Rural broadband quality affects access to education, telemedicine, payments, public services and local enterprise.

The agreement is an execution milestone, but success should be measured through uptime, completed household links, service affordability and actual use rather than network coverage alone.
Limitations
The household connection figure is an expectation. The release gives no completion date, rollout milestones, tender detail or service-performance baseline.
