Indian and Belgian leaders have outlined potential sector opportunities around the India-European Union trade agreement at a high-level dialogue in Mumbai.

The discussion covered diamonds, food processing, pharmaceuticals, maritime services, green hydrogen, infrastructure, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing. The Belgian prime minister also highlighted the Port of Antwerp-Bruges as a logistics link between the two markets.

Why it matters

The two sides describe a combined market of about two billion people and roughly USD 24 trillion. Changes in tariffs, standards and market-access conditions could reshape sourcing, investment and route-to-market choices across several industries.

SCULTRA point of view

Companies should translate headline access into product-level questions: tariff schedules, rules of origin, standards, customs procedures, regulatory approvals and logistics economics. These details will determine which opportunities are commercially actionable.

Limitations

The official release reports statements made at the dialogue and says formalities are still being completed. Final legal text, ratification, entry into force and product-level schedules should be confirmed before treating any market-access change as operative.
