The foundation has been laid for a four-lane road overbridge between Guntur and Nambur railway stations, with construction expected to begin shortly.

The 668-metre project will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section. Railways is funding the stated ₹108 crore cost, and the project requires 2.9 acres of land. It is designed to connect Bus Stand Road and the Inner Ring Road area with Gorantla village.

Why it matters

Replacing a busy level crossing can reduce road delays and conflict points between trains and vehicles, while improving the reliability of both urban traffic and rail operations.

SCULTRA point of view

The project should be tracked through land availability, contract award, construction milestones and post-opening measures such as crossing delay, incident rates and travel-time change.

Limitations

The announcement provides no completion date, contractor, procurement status, traffic baseline, accident history or quantified benefit assessment. Expected benefits remain to be demonstrated after delivery.
