Goa security review reports higher conviction rate and calls for tighter monitoring
State officials reported an increase from 22% to 53% after new criminal codes and justice-system technology were introduced.
A Goa security review chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah covered the three new criminal codes, narcotics, coastal security, fugitives, disaster management, police modernisation, enemy property and deportation issues.
State officials reported that the conviction rate increased from 22% to 53% after implementation of the new codes and the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System. They also said some criminal matters were being decided within six to eight months.
Why it matters
Coastal security, cybercrime, narcotics and justice-system performance affect public safety in a small state with heavy tourism and maritime exposure.

The reported improvement needs a stable denominator and comparison period. Case mix, filing-to-disposal time, acquittals, pending cases, forensic capacity and appeal outcomes should be assessed before causality is attributed to legal or technology changes.
