NITI Aayog member calls for risk-based, technology-neutral regulation
The policy argument centres on simpler approvals, coordinated supervision and regulation proportionate to risk, but does not introduce a new rule.
NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba used an address at Global Fintech Fest 2026 to argue for a review of licensing, approvals and recurring renewals in India's next reform phase.
He advocated principles-based, technology-neutral and risk-proportionate regulation, closer coordination among financial regulators, simpler compliance and open, secure and interoperable digital public infrastructure.
Why it matters
Regulatory design influences competition, consumer protection, investment confidence and the pace at which new financial services can reach the market.
SCULTRA point of view
The strongest reform test is whether simplification removes unnecessary friction without weakening safeguards, supervisory capacity or fair access.
Limitations
These were policy remarks at an industry event, not a notified rule, law or formally adopted reform package.
