Election Commission schedules six by-elections for 6 October

Five Assembly constituencies and Assam's Nagaon parliamentary constituency will enter the formal election timetable on 9 September.

By SCULTRA Services Editorial DeskPublished Updated

The Election Commission has scheduled by-elections in five Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, as well as the Nagaon parliamentary constituency in Assam.

The notification is due on 9 September. Nominations close on 16 September, scrutiny is set for 17 September, withdrawals close on 19 September, polling is scheduled for 6 October and counting for 9 October 2026.

Why it matters

The timetable starts formal electoral processes in six constituencies and fixes deadlines for candidates, election administrators and voters.

SCULTRA point of view

Coverage should remain focused on verified election administration, access to electoral rolls, polling accessibility, turnout and declared results. Parties and candidates should be treated consistently and without speculation.

Limitations

This is an election schedule, not an outcome. The Commission may revise dates, so its current notification and subsequent notices remain controlling.
