Coal-gasification scheme receives two applications before first deadline
Talcher Fertilisers and NTPC entered the ₹37,500 crore support programme before its first application window closed.
The Ministry of Coal says Talcher Fertilisers and NTPC submitted applications to the ₹37,500 crore surface coal and lignite gasification scheme before its first deadline on 7 September.
The request for proposals opened on 7 July, and the ministry says further application rounds will open every two months. The clarification followed reports that the programme had attracted no applicants.
Why it matters
Applicant quality and project design will determine whether public support creates viable downstream products and import substitution without locking in weak economics or unmanaged environmental costs.

The meaningful assessment starts after submission. Decision-makers should disclose eligible applicants, requested support, technology readiness, financing, lifecycle emissions, water demand, carbon management and delivery milestones before awards are treated as progress.
